Listening comes before understanding.
I am a native Texan with a sense of curiosity as big as the Lone Star State itself. My wide set of interests combined with my desire to share stories led me to study and receive my bachelor's degree in journalism from The University of Texas at Austin. During my senior year, I decided to work in the public sector as a media relations intern for the City of Austin. Looking back, I think this experience unknowingly shifted my focus to roles more directly connected to the community. Rather than follow the traditional journalism path after college, I worked in a couple of temporary positions before working full-time for a multi-million dollar event - The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo™ driven by a community of 30,000-plus volunteers.

After working for the Rodeo for about six years, I decided to move to Bogotá, Colombia, despite not having taken a Spanish class in more than 10 years. This move outside my comfort zone helped me to refocus. I have relearned the power of a smile from a stranger, the humility of learning a new language, and the appreciation of differences between cultures as well as people.

Now, I'd like to know more about you. So, please don't hesitate to send me an email with a question, story, or idea. I am eager to listen and help you connect to opportunities and your community.
